When we left Australia I was a bit worried about how we would cope with no TV and barely any toys but we're loving it. The boys are using their imagination more than ever and improvising all sorts of crazy scenarios with their limited resources.
Today Yasin has made a gun from a coat-hanger to protect Imran the baby elephant from poachers and now they're skiing together to the North Pole on a green run. I suspect that Imran will be the first elephant on skis and surely he's the first elephant to ski to the North Pole.
We have a few DVDs for the laptop and get them out maybe once a week (if that) and since they hardly ever see them they're riveted to the screen and on the occasions that I download something new they ask heaps of questions and consume it much less passively than before.
I'm thinking of leaving the toys and TV in storage when we move back to Australia.
I've long suspected that having too many toys is not doing them any favours and now I'm sure. They have some lego that their Grandfather gave them and they use it constantly to build all sorts of objects - whatever their latest interest they can build it with leggo so they can keep their leggo but all the plastic crap that has only one function can go.
